Tight End: Devin Asiasi (For Now)

The years of New England having two quality tight ends are over. As of right now I expect rookie Devin Asiasi to come away with the starting job. However, it wouldn’t be surprising to see New England makes a trade for a tight end. Asiasi is a big bodied tight end who was taken in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has potential, but probably isn’t ready to take over as a primary tight end this early in his career.

While the Patriots are looking for a Tight End, more than a few teams have an issue of too many tight ends. Two teams come to mind immediately, and that is Cleveland and Tampa Bay. Recently Cleveland’s former 1st round pick David Njoku has requested a trade. He has the size, speed, and flexibility most teams love. He struggled last season because of injury, however he had a very promising rookie season. It will be interesting to see if he’s on the Patriots radar.

Another former first round pick to look for is O.J. Howard out of Tampa Bay. After news broke that former New England tight end Rob Gronkowski was coming out of retirement and signing with Tampa, it crushed Howard’s chances of a breakout year.

Howard was a very talented prospect, and has shown a few glimpses of potential. Howard playing in New England wouldn’t come as a surprise. It takes tight ends a bit to fully develop, and where better to develop than New England where tight ends always seem to produce.
