First Quarter Of The Season
Week 1 vs Miami Dolphins
Miami is in the middle of a rebuild and has the pieces there to compete, but in Week 1, the puzzle won’t be complete yet. It’s a lot of new faces in Miami and the roles haven’t been established yet, with the biggest spotlight on the QB position. The Dolphins could elect to start right away with rookie Tua Tagovailoa or allow him time to ease into the role and start veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The Patriots lost to the Dolphins at Gillette for the first time since 2008 to end their season last year. That won’t happen again as the Patriots start off on the right foot with a win.
Week 2 at Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks are one of the best teams in the NFC and just became even better by trading for Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams from the New York Jets. Russell Wilson had an MVP-worthy season last year and is surrounded by a ton of weapons.
To make matters worst for the Patriots, since Pete Carroll took over in 2010, the Seahawks are 30-5-1 in primetime games and 19-2 at home in primetime. The Seahawks dominate in this Sunday Night Football game and the Pats fall to 1-1.
Week 3 vs Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders are a major wild card for 2020. They’re a young team that rode on their rookies last season to a 7-9 record. They once again will rely on their youngsters to allow them to compete in 2020.
Josh Jacobs will be a handful for the Patriots, especially with a lack of depth right now at linebacker. But Derek Carr is a much less formidable foe at quarterback. If the Patriots can contain Jacobs and keep the Raiders off the board, the offense should be able to do enough against a rebuilding Raiders secondary to get the win. The Patriots take this game at home to improve to 2-1.
Week 4 at Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are reigning Super Bowl champions. They’re favorites again to win the Super Bowl. They have the best player in the league in Patrick Mahomes and there aren’t a whole ton of weaknesses in their entire roster.
The Chiefs bested the Patriots 23-16 last season. Unfortunately for the Patriots, they can only hope the game is that close in 2020. Back down to .500 the Patriots will go after a trip to Arrowhead.
