Weak Divison
The NFC East is not what it used to be. This isn’t your dad’s division anymore. What was once regarded as the best division in football is now filled with more questions than answers.
The Dallas Cowboys still have one of, if not the best offensive lines in football. The offense is built around the running game; however, being one-dimensional will get you nowhere, especially in a loaded NFC conference. They lost Dez Bryant and future Hall of Fame tight end, Jason Witten. Other than Ezekiel Elliot, they don’t possess any other threats on offense. Add in a sub-par defense, and it’s hard to imagine Dallas winning more than eight games in 2018.
The Washington Redskins won seven games in 2017 under head coach Jay Gruden. During the offseason, they signed quarterback Alex Smith to a whopping four-year, $94 million contract. Perhaps he could be the boost Gruden and Co. need to compete for a Wild Card spot. But with that signing, you now have a roster that includes Alex Smith, Vernon Davis, and Adrian Peterson. Maybe if this was 2007, they might strike a little fear into opposing offenses.
The New York Giants — well, they won three games last year. They do still have Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. They drafted Saquon Barkley with their first-round pick and he has looked great in preseason. They brought on former Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator James Bettcher, as well. But lets face it — they aren’t turning things around this season, nor should they be a threat in the division. But division games are always tough — they might be able to play spoiler late in the season when teams are jockeying for playoff spots and seeding.
Residing in what currently is a division in rebuild mode, the Eagles should have no issues running the table once again, especially when their franchise QB is set to return.
