It’s Time For Derek Barnett To Take Make That Reggie White Leap
That may be a bit too much to ask for the second-year player from Tennessee, but there’s no better time than the present. There are times when single plays can turn a players’ career into something bigger. When Barnett snagged Tom Brady’s fumble in the Super Bowl, the pendulum swung.
In his rookie season, Barnett accounted for 15 tackles and five sacks while backing up Vinny Curry. With Curry off to Tampa Bay, Barnett will get his chance to prove his worth on a consistent basis. Curry, while not as talented as Barnett, managed to register three sacks opposite Brandon Graham. Barnett is faster and stronger off the edges and should give the Eagles one of the most explosive D-Lines in the NFL in 2018.
The Eagles ended the 2017 season with 38 sacks, but with Curry unable to take advantage on the opposite end, Jim Schwartz is hoping the second year stud can register 10+ as he moves into the starting rotation. If Barnett can make opposing O-Lines pay for doubling Graham, then the Eagles sack’s number will surely increase this season.
Barnett is an X-Factor due to his presence bringing stability to the Eagles defense which increases their chances of repeating.
