Now former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce announced his retirement this week, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t going to stay busy outside of football.
Not only does Kelce have his New Heights podcast with his brother, Travis, to keep him occupied, but he also plans on losing 35 pounds.
However, he isn’t going to get too devoted to any specific type of diet.
“I don’t personally subscribe to doing extreme diets like going all the way vegan or all the way carnivore or keto,” Kelce said on New Heights (via Andrew Holleran of The Spun). “My man Joe Thomas lost a bunch of weight [and] he’s all keto. And I’m like, ‘Dude more power to you,’ but (expletive) no, I’m not doing that. He looks fantastic, but it’s not worth, to me, doing that.”
Kelce merely plans to keep track of his calories.
“I downloaded MyFitnessPal and just started tracking calories,” Kelce said. “I feel like as long as I maintain my protein intake, so I keep my muscle and just kind of limit the calories, you’ll start to lose weight, that’s the plan.”
Kelce weighed around 295 pounds during his playing career, which is already fairly low for an offensive lineman. So, he plans on getting to around 260, which seems just fine for his body type.
The 36-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Cincinnati, was selected by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
Kelce played 13 seasons in the NFL, making seven Pro Bowl appearances and earning six First-Team All-Pro selections. He also helped lead Philadelphia to a Super Bowl during the 2017-18 campaign.
Now, Jason Kelce will get to focus on being a family man, and apparently shedding some weight.
