While the Philadelphia Eagles are still fully focused on making a run in the playoffs, their front office is also looking ahead to the offseason. After what has been an impressive all-around season, adding more talent to the roster will be important for the franchise to take the next step. The 2022 NFL Draft is loaded with talent and the Eagles are loaded with draft picks.
Looking at the roster, the Eagles could use some work on both sides of the football. Finding another playmaker for Jalen Hurts to work with should be something important that Philadelphia focuses on.
In the latest CBS Sports mock draft, they have the Eagles selecting Ohio State standout wide receiver Garrett Wilson with the No. 16 pick in the draft that they acquired from the Indianapolis Colts in the Carson Wentz trade.
This likely won’t be a popular pick because the Eagles have used first-rounders on wide receivers the last two years, but they’ll only have four wideouts under contract after the season, and that includes J.J. Arcega-Whiteside. Wilson is one of the the most dynamic players in college football and he’ll give Jalen Hurts another downfield option alongside rookie DeVonta Smith.
Some fans may not love the Eagles using another first-round pick on a wide receiver, but it needs to happen. Hurts is showing that he is a true franchise quarterback and the team needs to do their best to surround him with the best talent they possibly can.
Forming a long-term wide receiver duo of DeVonta Smith and Wilson would be a great move for the Eagles. They would have two young players growing with a young quarterback and competing together for years to come.
Wilson is coming off of a good season with Ohio State, racking up 70 receptions for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns. As CBS Sports mentioned, he is a dynamic playmaker and would give the Eagles a huge deep threat option. That is something that they were missing this year.
Expect to see the Eagles bring in a ton of new young talent in the 2022 NFL Draft. They have compiled picks and have plenty of ammo to make some moves. Philadelphia is headed in the right direction and should be a contender in the NFC for quite some time.
