Bring the “Fun” Back into the NFL

If there’s one player who can make the “No Fun League” fun again, it’s Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. In 2017, the 20-year old — who didn’t have a driver’s license to start the season — was the epitome of a kid playing football and having fun.

In a year of turmoil, when the league’s top headlines included issues off the field and actions prior to kickoff, JuJu is exactly what the NFL needed. Smith-Schuster is the reason why we love watching football; he’s one of the world’s top athletes, excelling at one of the world’s most entertaining and competitive games — and he’s not afraid to show the world that he’s having a great time.

JuJu’s entrance onto the NFL stage coincided perfectly with the league’s decision to relax their previously restrictive touchdown celebration rules:

The Steelers’ rookie wide receiver took full advantage of the new league rules. Before long, Pittsburgh’s touchdown celebrations became the talk of the NFL:

Along with his on-field heroics and accompanying celebrations, JuJu Smith-Schuster has been a model citizen off the field as well, while continuing to bring entertainment value throughout the process. When the receiver’s lone mode of transportation — his prized bicycle — was stolen, JuJu quickly turned to Twitter to notify the Pittsburgh fan base of his loss, and to plead for his bike’s return:

Steelers fans united around the #TeamFindJujusBike cause, quickly located the stolen bicycle and returned it to its rightful and emotional owner. Smith-Schuster appropriately responded with a bike-related touchdown celebration:

After the season, JuJu used the popularity surrounding his now-famous bicycle to sponsor a charity bike ride in Pittsburgh over the summer. And although the Steelers’ wide receiver eventually obtained his driver’s license, he has no plans to abandon his prized bicycle.

Over the 2017 NFL season, Pittsburgh Steelers rookie wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster did all the right things, both on and off the field.

By achieving these three goals in 2018, JuJu will establish himself as a dangerous offensive target, improve his team’s overall offensive performance and solidify himself as an NFL fan favorite and a true national treasure.
