Steelers Land Major Playmaker With This Big Trade Proposal

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in some serious need of depth at wide receiver behind George Pickens.

The Steelers traded fellow wide out Diontae Johnson earlier this offseason, leaving them with Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin and not much else after Pickens.

Yes, Pittsburgh selected Roman Wilson in the third round of the NFL Draft late last month, but Wilson is entirely unproven.

With the Steelers trying to drastically overhaul their offense after revamping their quarterback room and bringing in Russell Wilson, they are going to need more weapons.

That’s why Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay thinks they should swing a trade with the Denver Broncos to acquire receiver Courtland Sutton.

It makes plenty of sense for Pittsburgh.

Not only is Wilson very familiar with Sutton after playing two seasons with him in Denver, but Sutton would be the perfect No. 2 receiver.

Sutton has been playing the role of No. 1 with the Broncos, and he has done an admirable job. Last season, he hauled in 59 receptions for 772 yards and 10 touchdowns.

However, it’s pretty clear that Sutton is not a top guy and needs another pass-catcher alongside of him to take away some pressure. Like Pickens.

Kay suggests that the Steelers trade a 2025 third-round draft pick and a sixth-rounder to the Broncos in exchange for Sutton, which would supply a rebuilding Denver squad with some more assets. A third-rounder would also be a pretty good return for Sutton.

Sutton, who played his collegiate football at Southern Methodist, was selected by the Broncos in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

After a solid rookie campaign in which he logged 42 catches for 704 yards and four scores, Sutton broke out in his sophomore season, catching 72 passes for 1,112 yards and six touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

The 28-year-old seemed prime to break into the upper echelon of wide receivers that following season, but he unfortunately tore his ACL in Week 1. He hasn’t been the same since.

Still, Sutton has remained very productive, registering well over 700 yards in each of his past three years. He topped out at 829 yards in 2022. Plus, he has been able to stay on the field in spite of his prior injury, missing just three games over the last three seasons.

Sutton isn’t a star, but he would be a phenomenal pickup for Pittsburgh.
