The Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys are going to be two of the more intriguing teams to watch heading into the 2024 NFL season. Both teams are expected to compete for the playoffs, but both have quite a few question marks surrounding them as well.

For the Steelers, they are entering the season with a new starting quarterback. Russell Wilson was signed in free agency after being let go by the Denver Broncos. No one quite knows what to expect from Wilson in Pittsburgh, but he’s expected to be a major upgrade over Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph from last year.

As for the Cowboys, they had a very quiet offseason after getting knocked out of the playoffs in embarrassing fashion last year by the Green Bay Packers. If the Cowboys don’t have a successful season, it’s widely expected that Jerry Jones will begin tearing down the makeup of the team.

All of that being said, could these two teams come together to make a trade prior to the 2024 season?

Pittsburgh Steelers Make Major Trade With Dallas Cowboys In Big Proposal

Bleacher Report recently suggested a trade between the Steelers and Cowboys. The deal would involve wide receiver Brandin Cooks, which is an area of need for Pittsburgh.

Here’s what the trade that they suggested would look like:

Pittsburgh Steelers Receive: Brandin Cooks

Dallas Cowboys Receive: 2025 Third-Round Pick

On the outside looking in, this trade would make sense for both parties involved. Cooks is not a huge factor for Dallas, but would immediately be able to compete to be a starter in Pittsburgh.

For the Cowboys, moving on from Cooks would deplete some of their wide receiver depth. He is currently projected to be their No. 2 wide receiver behind CeeDee Lamb. However, they could go out and sign a free agent to replace him like Michael Thomas or Mecole Hardman even.

On the other side of the trade, the Steelers are in need of a legitimate No. 2 target. George Pickens is their clear-cut No. 1 wide receiver, but behind him they have question marks. Roman Wilson and Van Jefferson project to be the next best options for Wilson and the Steelers’ offense.

Trading Cooks would net the Cowboys a valuable third-round pick. If they end up tearing the roster down, they’re going to need as much draft capital as they can get. Cooks also doesn’t fit the long-term timeline for Dallas.

While the Dallas Cowboys might prefer to keep their depth intact, they could replace him quickly if the trade were to happen soon. There are plenty of goo options available in free agency. Adding a third-round pick and replacing him with a free agent would be a wise and valuable move.

Obviously, for the Pittsburgh Steelers, they’re trying to round out their roster to compete for the playoffs. If they want to achieve that goal, they’re going to need more offensive firepower. Cooks could provide just that.

All of that being said, this is all hypothetical at this point in time. The Steelers and Cowboys have not had discussions about a Cooks trade. Even with that being said, this is an interesting deal to ponder that would make sense for both teams.
