As the Pittsburgh Steelers prepare for the upcoming 2024 NFL season, no one truly knows what to expect from them. Some believe they’ll be serious contenders in the AFC, while others are projecting that they will miss the playoffs. One thing is for sure, which is the fact that they are a new-look football team.

Looking back to the 2023 season, the Steelers struggled mightily at the quarterback position. Neither Kenny Pickett or Mason Rudolph were truly getting the job done.

To fix those issues, the Steelers went out and signed Russell Wilson in free agency. They also acquired Justin Fields in a surprising trade with the Chicago Bears.

Now, there are questions about the weapons that those quarterbacks will have to utilize. Diontae Johnson was traded this offseason, which leaves the Steelers with George Pickens, Van Jefferson, and rookie Roman Wilson as the projected top three targets. However, there is one sleeper that is drawing some buzz as well.

Pittsburgh Steelers’ Sleeper Offensive Weapon, Revealed

NFL analyst Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post Gazzette spoke out and revealed a sleeper to keep an eye on. That sleeper is none other than former New York Jets wide receiver Denzel Mims.

“I’m not sleeping on Denzel Mims. Denzel Mims – he’s going to be like this year’s Hakeem Butler this year in camp, hopefully without all the drops. He’s going to stand out physically.”

Not long ago, Mims was a highly-touted draft pick. He is an impressive wide receiver from a physical standpoint, standing in at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds with top-notch speed and athleticism.

However, he has been unable to find his footing in the NFL.

Throughout his career thus far, Mims has only played in 30 games. He has caught just 42 passes for 676 yards and hasn’t scored a touchdown in the NFL. That could change this season.

There is no denying his talent from a physical perspective. Perhaps he has struggled due to not being able to find a consistent role and playing time. If the Steelers stand pat at wide receiver, Mims could earn a role in 2024.

Mike Tomlin has always found ways to get the most out of his players. If Mims is going to turn his NFL career around, joining forces with Tomlin was a wise decision.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see if this ends up becoming something real to watch. Can Mims actually get back on track and become the impact player that many thought he would be when he was drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft? He’s certainly in a great place to turn things around.
