Predicting the 2020 NFL season for Broncos WR Courtland Sutton
The Denver Broncos still remain comfortably behind the Kansas City Chiefs when stacked up with the rest of the AFC West. However, they have a real chance of finishing No. 2 in the division standings if they can outduel the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers.
Experiencing a substantial improvement in offensive results will be vital to the Broncos’ efforts to earn a Wild Card spot. They finished just 16 passing touchdowns last season, which trailed all 31 other NFL teams. That has to change and the Drew Lock-to-Courtland Sutton connection will be important in doing so.
There wasn’t a single wide receiver in the NFL that accounted for a greater share of air yards than Sutton (42.93%) last season. Even Michael Thomas (41.34%) trailed slightly on this list. Sutton certainly made the most of the opportunities afforded to him.
Sutton will remain a critical element to their Broncos’ passing offense account for substantial air yards. However, that doesn’t appear likely to happen. A stat line of roughly 76 receptions, 1,178 yards, and eight touchdown grabs seems realistic for him.
The ESPN projection for Sutton in 2020 features totals of 73 receptions, 1,047 yards, and seven touchdown grabs. The production the Broncos star is expected to achieve lands him at the No. 15 spot on the rankings for projected PPR scoring for wide receivers.
There are some notable names Sutton is projected to finish ahead of in the rankings for PPR scoring, including Odell Beckham Jr., A.J. Brown, Cooper Kupp, and Keenan Allen. It’s a true testament to Sutton’s importance to the Broncos’ offense.
Expect another big season from Courtland Sutton as he enters his third year of NFL experience in 2020.
