What To Expect From Ezekiel Elliott In 2020 With The Cowboys
Quite simply, Elliott is going to love playing for Mike McCarthy. While McCarthy has focused on the passing game a lot throughout his coaching career, he has never been scared to pound the football on the ground.
During his years with the Packers, McCarthy never had anything close to the kind of weapon that Elliott is capable of being. After taking a year away from football, the Super Bowl winning head coach is coming into a perfect situation.
Having a quarterback like Prescott to go along with weapons like Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb, the running game will be open. Elliott is a threat to break off a long play any time he touches the football. He could also be used more often in the passing game.
Last season, the Cowboys struggled to finish the season. They ended up losing their grip on the NFC East division and the Philadelphia Eagles came in and stole the division title. McCarthy and company are expected to bounce back and take the division back.
With that being said, predicting a season for any player isn’t an easy task. However, there are some reasonable expectations that the Cowboys should have for Elliott.
Assuming he stays healthy, Elliott should end up recording around 1,350 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns again. He also should improve his receiving numbers to 63 receptions for 500 yards and another three or four touchdowns.
Expecting similar numbers from Ezekiel Elliott this season as he put up last season makes sense. The Cowboys aren’t going to work him much harder than they did last year. But, last year was a massive success for any running back.
Elliott is going to have another big year and will help the Cowboys make a run in the playoffs. They may not end up winning the Super Bowl, but they are going to be a major threat.
