Predicting the 2020 NFL season for Falcons WR Julio Jones

Last year, the Atlanta Falcons missed the playoffs with a 7-9 record for the second year in a row. While quarterback Matt Ryan and his team turned in a mediocre performance, Julio Jones continued his march toward Canton.

Even during seasons when the Falcons struggle, Jones continuously ranks among the best wide receivers in the NFL. This past year wasn’t an exception. In 15 games, he made 99 receptions for 1,394 yards and six touchdowns. The Associated Press rewarded Jones with a Second-Team All-Pro selection while Pro Football Focus (PFF) voted him a First-Team All-Pro at the flex position.

Last season, Jones averaged over 90 receiving yards per game for the seventh consecutive year. There hasn’t been a more consistent wide receiver in the NFL over the past decade, which is one reason why Jones should maintain his high production in 2020.

Since 2014, Jones has averaged 103 receptions, 1,564 yards, and six touchdowns per year. Compared to those numbers, his 2019 season was a slight letdown, but it isn’t a drop off fans should fret about. Ryan had a down year, and Atlanta’s running game was almost nonexistent. An injury to Calvin Ridley only punctuated the team’s misfortune.

However, there’s hope that the Falcons rebound in 2020. Between adding Todd Gurley and trading for Hayden Hurst, Atlanta’s offense features some new faces. The team also addressed the offensive line, which should nurture the running game and make the offense more diverse.

At 31 years old, Jones is still in his prime. The superstar wide receiver should make his seventh consecutive Pro Bowl this year and add another layer to his Hall of Fame résumé.
