Predictions for Cam Newton’s 2020 NFL Season With New England
Quite simply, Newton is not going to be handed the starting job. The Patriots have been very high on Jarrett Stidham and they are going to let the two players go at it in an open competition during training camp.
Newton is coming off of a lost season due to injury and the Patriots aren’t going to rush him back. However, it would be reasonable to expect Newton to be starting by around Week 3.
Bill Belichick is looking to compete for a Super Bowl once again this season. That much has been made clear. Even without Tom Brady, the Patriots are not going to be fine with being a mediocre football team.
As for what kind of statistical production fans should be expecting from Newton, that is a much more difficult thing to predict.
ESPN has shared their projections for Newton’s 2020 season. They have him throwing for 2,946 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. In addition to his passing numbers, they have projected him to end up with 360 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
We don’t agree 100 percent with the above projections. Instead, we’re predicting that Newton will end up completing 63 percent of his passes for 3,300 yards, 24 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
That kind of season would be a big step for Cam Newton. He would be back on the map as a starting quarterback and could earn a new deal with the Patriots. Newton has something to prove this season and he will come through with a very solid year.
