Projecting the 2020 Season for Saints RB Alvin Kamara
The role Alvin Kamara will play during the 2020 season should remain similar to what it was last year. This doesn’t afford him with much room to boost his statistical output in key categories from a volume standpoint.
It would be easier for Kamara to put up massive stat totals if he were on a bad team as the lone back being emphasized in both the ground game and passing attack. Regardless, he has the talent and sufficient involvement to post a strong overall season.
One factor to watch will be how often the Saints will look to have Drew Brees throwing the football this late in his career. Placing at least somewhat more of an emphasis on the ground-game or getting the ball out his hands to relief options to make plays in space wouldn’t be out of the question.
As long as Kamara can stay healthy, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to believe he can reach totals of 187 carries, 902 rushing yards, and eight rushing touchdowns along with 81 receptions, 627 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns.
The projection ESPN has for Kamara in 2020 leads him as being the No. 3 running back in PPR scoring, trailing only Christian McCaffrey and Ezekiel Elliott. He’s projected to record 194 carries, 877 rushing yards, and eight rushing touchdowns along with 78 receptions, 600 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns.
Kamara certainly should be one of the first running backs off the board in fantasy football drafts. His frequent involvement in the passing game affords him a healthy dose of scoring opportunities in PPR leagues in addition to his rushing production.
Facing a contract year, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Alvin Kamara exceed projections in 2020. He will be out to prove that he should be the talent teams make aggressive offers for in a loaded free-agent running back class.
