What to Expect from Saints WR Michael Thomas in 2020

The 2020 NFL season appears likely to be the last of Drew Brees’ career, placing added importance for the New Orleans Saints to finally get the job done in the playoffs. Michael Thomas will remain a pivotal element in achieving their goals.

It seems likely that Thomas will receive a lesser volume of targets than he did in 2019. Inserting Sanders into the situation will provide the Saints with a more layered No. 2 target than what they’ve become accustomed to having with Ginn Jr., opening up more alternative options.

Producing lesser statistical results for Thomas could be a side affect of doing what’s best to position the Saints to win. Working the ball around more would make it more difficult to stop New Orleans’ offense as a whole.

The ESPN projection for Thomas features another season of incredible production but still is a decline, nevertheless. He is projected to record 152 targets, 114 receptions, 1,351 yards, and nine touchdowns. This level of production would make him the top receiver in PPR leagues along with the No. 5 player overall

Expect a big season from Thomas in what should be yet another All-Pro caliber campaign. He has quickly cemented himself as one of the NFL’s absolute best receivers and will surely continue to play at that level in 2020.
