The Minnesota Vikings have a lot of tasks on their to-do list in the 2024 NFL offseason. However, the most important one is figuring out their plans for the quarterback position in 2024 and beyond.
There hasn’t been much discussion about incumbent starter Kirk Cousins, who is set to hit free agency. He isn’t going to give the Vikings any sort of discount and the team cannot use the franchise tag on him.
Turning 36 ahead of the 2024 regular season and coming off an Achilles injury, do the Vikings want to commit to Cousins even on a short multi-year deal? They will have to strongly consider it based on the production they received from the quarterback position following his injury.

Joshua Dobbs, Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall certainly didn’t instill confidence they would be a serviceable option moving forward. Hall could certainly be developed as he was a fifth-round rookie in 2023. But, if the Vikings went in a different direction, no one would bat an eye.
The question is, what direction could the team go? Free agency will have a few options, some veterans could qualify as stopgaps. But, without much cap space to spend money, and with other pressing needs on the roster, they may not be able to compete with other franchises who will be seeking quarterback help.
That could lead the Vikings to the 2024 NFL Draft. Currently, in the No. 11 spot, they aren’t in a position for a tier 1 quarterback. But, there should be some intriguing options available when they come on the clock, including Bo Nix out of Oregon. Nix was named the perfect prospect for the team by Trevor Sikkema of PFF.
“The Vikings have been on the quarterback carousel since Kirk Cousins went down for the season. Cousins is set to become a free agent this offseason, so if he’s not brought back, a young quarterback becomes paramount for them. To me, Nix would be perfect with his tools, dual-threat ability and experience to work with Kevin O’Connell,” Sikkema wrote.

Nix would be an intriguing prospect for the Vikings to target. He brings vast experience from college, starting a record 61 games. That much experience should make the transition to the NFL a little easier, and someone Minnesota could put into their lineup right away.
His dual-threat ability would bring an added wrinkle to their offense, something that didn’t exist with Cousins as the starter. With a strong group of skill position players in place, the Vikings are a great spot for any rookie to land should they look to the draft to address their need under center.
