Raheem Mostert Returning To Dolphins On Two-Year Deal

The Miami Dolphins were facing quite a conundrum when it came to the running back position heading into the offseason. Every player that was listed as a running back that received a carry during the 2022 season, five in total, was not under contract for the 2023 season.

Given how poorly the Dolphins ran the ball last season, many people believed they would overhaul the running back depth chart. While Miami was 31st in rushing attempts, they were decently efficient given the lack of volume.

The team ranked 25th in yardage, 22nd in rushing touchdowns and 19th in yards per attempt. Head coach Mike McDaniel built his reputation on the running game with the San Francisco 49ers, so it certainly wouldn’t be shocking to see him get back to basics and lean on the ground game a little more in 2023.

The question was, who would be leading that backfield? Some of the top free agent running backs were linked to the Dolphins and they could bring in some new faces during the 2023 NFL Draft. However, for now, they have opted to go with a familiar face.

The Dolphins and Raheem Mostert have agreed to a two-year deal according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. His agent, Brett Tassler, shared the news with Schefter. The deal is worth up to $7.6 million with incentives.

For only the second time in his career, Mostert was able to remain healthy for a season. It has never been a question of talent when it came to him and he showcased that once again during the 2022 season.

Mostert led the Dolphins with 181 rushes for 891 yards in 16 games. He scored three touchdowns on the ground and is also a capable pass catcher. His 31 receptions were fourth most on the team, as he totaled 202 receiving yards and two more scores.

Miami will almost certainly add some more depth at the running back position at some point whether it is another veteran in free agency or a rookie in the draft. But, for now, Mostert is in the driver’s seat to once again lead the backfield in touches in 2023.
