Raiders Already Waive Rookie Defensive End

The Las Vegas Raiders continue to rework their roster following the rookie minicamp this past weekend. Teams have larger rosters at this portion of the offseason but it doesn’t make the job any easier as they are constantly making moves at the end of the roster.

That leads to some quick turnarounds of players being signed and released shortly after. That is the case with edge rusher Brock Martin, who the team announced they were releasing on Thursday.

Martin went undrafted a few weeks ago out of Oklahoma State. He was signed by the Raiders earlier in May, but won’t make it to the next phase of their offseason program. He will now look to latch on with another team for the offseason and there could be some interest in him.

Any team looking for an experienced player will be drawn to Martin. He has extensive playing experience, playing for six seasons with the Cowboys according to ProFootballTalk and playing in a school record 62 games.

In his career, Martin has 90 solo tackles and 56 assists to go along with 39 tackles for loss and 15 sacks. His best season was in 2021 when he had 41 total tackles with 14 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks.

His resume is quite impressive as Martin made the first-team All-Academic Big 12 four different seasons. He was also voted a captain for the 2022 season, as he had the respect of his teammates.

Martin lacks the elite strength and athleticism you are normally looking for in an edge rusher, but he does profile as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 alignment as he held his own in pass coverage. His fundamentals, otherwise, are pretty sound.

He gets the job done against the run and there is potential for him to become a rotation player should he gain some strength. Possessing good size at 6’3” and 243 pounds, there is something to work with should he land on a roster that has the opportunity to develop him. Things didn’t work out in Las Vegas but another opportunity should be far away.
