The Las Vegas Raiders made some major changes to their roster this offseason. Multiple Pro Bowlers were added to the roster, as Davante Adams was traded for from the Green Bay Packers to upgrade the offense and Chandler Jones was signed to bolster the defense.
Both players will help solidify a Raiders team that is on the up and up after earning a playoff berth last season. Jones, especially, will help a defense that was middle of the road throughout the 2021 season.
Jones has been one of the best pass rushers in the NFL in recent years. Outside of an injury-marred 2020, Jones has registered double-digit sacks every season going back to 2015. In seven out of his 10 seasons in the NFL, Jones has recorded at least 10 sacks.
He will be bringing that pass rush to the Raiders, who already had an excellent pass rusher in Maxx Crosby on one side of their defense. Jones is looking forward to teaming up with Crosby and has put opponents on notice.
Crosby didn’t have a big season when it came to sacks in 2021, as he registered only eight, which was second behind Yannick Ngakoue, who had 10. But, Crosby had one of the best pass-rushing seasons the NFL has ever seen.
Crosby had 100 pressures on the season according to PFF, which is the third-most in a season ever since PFF has been recording it. J.J. Watt in 2014 with 119 and Aaron Donald with 106 in 2018 are the only players to have registered more.
With those two bookending their defense, the Raiders are in great shape when it comes to their pass rush. Having those two leading the pass rush will help compensate for a secondary that could still use a little more help. Holding up on the backend will be what determines if the Raiders defense can take that next step in 2022, but having a great pass rush led by Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones will certainly make the lives of players in the secondary that much easier.
