Raiders Hosting Talented Veteran Free Agent LB For Visit

The Las Vegas Raiders are always looking for ways to upgrade their roster. Defensively, the team could use more depth and that appears to be a focus of theirs right now.

Coming into the season, the Raiders were widely viewed as a dark-horse Super Bowl contender. After an 0-2 start, the pressure is on for Las Vegas to turn things around quickly. Adding talent is one way to help that happen.

According to a report from Jordan Schultz of Yahoo! Sports, the Raiders are bringing in veteran free agent linebacker Blake Martinez for a visit.

Martinez has been a very popular free agent visit over the last couple of weeks. Recently, it appeared that the Baltimore Ravens were considering signing him. Baltimore ended up choosing to sign veteran pass-rusher Jason Pierre-Paul, which has left Martinez still searching for a job.

Last season with the New York Giants, Martinez ended up playing in just three games. He racked up 11 total tackles in that limited time. Back in 2020, he played in 16 games, recording 151 total tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, an interception, and five defended passes.

Needless to say, Martinez is a stat-sheet stuffer when he’s healthy. The Raiders could use a consistent tackling machine in the middle of their defense. At the very least, he would be elite depth to add at this point in the season.

Expect to see the Raiders continue bringing in free agents for workouts in the coming weeks. Just like every other team in the NFL, depth is needed at all times. Martinez would be a very nice addition should Las Vegas choose to sign him.
