The Las Vegas Raiders came through with a big Week 1 victory over the Carolina Panthers to begin the 2020 NFL season. While they have a good roster overall, they could still use some talent defensively. Earl Thomas might be a name to keep an eye on.
According to Bleacher Report, the Raiders are one of the top two landing spots for Thomas. No one has signed him since his release from the Baltimore Ravens, but it would not be shocking to see him get picked up in the near future.
Thomas would be a massive addition for the Raiders’ secondary. They are a potential Wild Card contender in the AFC and the addition of a star safety would help them reach that goal.
During the 2019 NFL season with the Ravens, Thomas put together good numbers. He racked up 49 total tackles to go along with two sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, and four defended passes.
At 31 years old, Thomas would be a good addition for the Raiders not just this season, for but a few years to come. Bringing him in on a two or three-year deal would make perfect sense.
Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock have focused on building their roster the right way. They have drafted young talent and developed it, only signing players that they know fit. Thomas would absolutely fit in with the Raiders’ defense.
The other team that was mentioned as a potential landing spot for Thomas was the Dallas Cowboys. Thomas and the Cowboys have been connected often over the last few years. However, it doesn’t appears that Dallas wants to make that move right now.
Expect to hear more rumors and speculation about Earl Thomas’ future in the NFL in the coming days. It would make sense for teams to come calling this week and next week. The Raiders should absolutely be one of them.
