Raiders projected to sign QB Marcus Mariota in free agency

The Las Vegas Raiders are entering the NFL offseason with the possibility of adding a quarterback. Derek Carr has received a ton of support from head coach Jon Gruden already this offseason, but bringing in competition for him would make a lot of sense.

Some rumors have mentioned Jameis Winston as a potential candidate. However, Marcus Mariota is the latest quarterback to be projected to end up signing with the Raiders.

The Athletic has made their predictions for landing spots for the top 100 free agents this offseason. Mariota ended up with the Raiders in their predictions.

The Raiders take a run at Brady, but he goes back to New England. They bring in Mariota as Derek Carr insurance/competition.

Mariota was replaced by Ryan Tannehill as the starter for the Tennessee Titans last season. He played in just seven games all season, completing 59.4 percent of his pass attempts for 1,203 yards, seven touchdowns, and two interceptions. In addition to his passing numbers, he also picked up 129 yards on the ground.

At just 26 years old, there is still plenty of time for Mariota to turn his career around. While he would come in to Las Vegas as a backup, he would still have a chance to compete with Carr.

The Raiders absolutely need to bring in competition for Carr. That could be exactly what he needs to get back to being an above average starter.

Gruden and Mariota would make a lot of sense. If there is a coach that can help unlock his potential, Gruden would be the guy.

Expect to see the Raiders take a look at Mariota this offseason. They may not end up signing him, but the fit would make a lot of sense.
