No. 3: Running Back
Marshawn Lynch has a stranglehold on the Raiders running back position for now. However, in 2019 Lynch will be an unrestricted free agent and there will be little reason for the Raiders to bring him back. “Beast Mode” has seemingly enjoyed being back in his hometown of Oakland, but Las Vegas looms on the horizon, and there is no indication of him being on the roster when the Raiders finish their relocation.
Behind him? The once-flashy Doug Martin, who will be 30 once the 2019 season starts. He is not the answer either. Diving a little deeper, the Raiders have Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington as their third and fourth options. Neither of them have shown any glimpses of being capable of leading the team’s backfield.
Promising rookie Chris Warren ended up on the injured reserve, which is quite disappointing after the impressive preseason he put together. Yes, it was just the preseason, but he earned a chance to play in a meaningful game against the league’s top talent.
Realistically, the answer to the Raiders’ running woes will be found in the draft. Whether it is a big name guy like Stanford’s Bryce Love in the first round, or more of a sleeper found in the middle rounds, the Raiders will find their new starter in the next draft.
