Rams: 3 Reasons Why Getting Dante Fowler Will Help Los Angeles

USA TODAY Sports

If Fowler Plays Well He Could Be Part of the Rams Future

Everyone realizes Fowler has the talent to be an elite pass rusher in the NFL. Lost in the midst of that, is that he is only 24-years old.

He’s shown signs of becoming a talented pass-rusher, but has to continue developing in certain areas. With Wade Phillips coaching him up, it could be a match made in heaven.

The Rams, along with Sean McVay himself, have a very young roster. They currently boast the fourth-youngest roster in the NFL, with their average age being 25.5 years old.

McVay and the Rams are rolling along nicely, looking poised for a Super Bowl run this year. They are currently 8-0 for the first time in franchise history since 1969.

As the Rams continue building a better team, there’s going to be decisions that need to be made. With the addition of Fowler, he will become one of those important decisions next off-season.

After this season, Fowler becomes an unrestricted free-agent. If he plays well enough, Fowler could be receiving a contract extension, becoming a piece of the Rams future (of course it would need to be at the right price).

Of course its premature to say whether he will receive one or not, as he was just traded to the Rams today. If he plays well and the Rams decide not to sign him, the Rams can still get a compensatory pick out of him.

The compensatory pick would be a fourth-round selection. The Rams have an estimated $35 million in cap space next year, leaving room for someone like Fowler to re-sign.
