Rams Receive Troubling Injury Update On QB Matthew Stafford

The Los Angeles Rams season looked to be going down the drain after the injury to wide receiver Cooper Kupp. Kupp was the only positive on what has been an abysmal offense this season and without him, it would become that much more of a struggle.

While that was certainly a big blow, the last nail in the coffin for this offense would be quarterback Matthew Stafford not being able to suit up again. Stafford missed the team’s game in Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals because he was placed in concussion protocol during the week leading up to it.

Head coach Sean McVay did not know Stafford had been concussed in their Week 9 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as Stafford played 100 percent of the offensive snaps. It was an off situation and yet another has arisen this week, again with Stafford and the concussion protocol.

Stafford has been placed in concussion protocol once again, only three days after exiting it to suit up against the New Orleans Saints. Why it took more than a day for Stafford to end up in the protocol again is anyone’s guess as he left the game against the Saints with what was deemed a concussion and was ruled out for the game.

Given the fact that Stafford was taken out of protocol so recently, it would not be surprising if he was unable to suit up this week. The Rams are set to face off with the Kansas City Chiefs and doing so without Stafford in the lineup could make them one of the biggest underdogs of the season.

With the season all but over for the Rams, it wouldn’t make much sense to push Stafford after suffering his second concussion in three weeks. Stafford’s backup, John Wolford, was sidelined against the Saints with an injury of his own, which thrust Bryce Perkins into the lineup after Stafford had to exit the game.

Perkins, an undrafted rookie out of Virginia, could be making his first career start in Arrowhead Stadium, which is a daunting task for even veterans. A game that many people circled as one of the best matchups of the season coming into the season has dissolved in what could be an easy blowout win for the Chiefs.
