Emmanuel Sanders, New Orleans Saints
Emmanuel Sanders seems to be one of the hot picks this offseason when it comes to underrated signings, and for good reason. While not the deep threat he once was, Sanders still has the speed to take the top off of most defenses, and he’ll now be playing with the best QB he has ever had the pleasure of catching passes from.
Drew Brees will likely enjoy the pressure Sanders can take away from Michael Thomas, who tends to run shorter options on the route tree but can still pull double teams even closer to the line of scrimmage.
However, Sanders does not come without a few caveats. The 10-year veteran just turned 33 in March, and speed does not generally age well. While he enjoyed a stronger showing downfield last season with Jimmy Garoppolo, Sander’s yards-per-catch has generally continue to decline ever since his earlier seasons in Denver.
Likewise, Sanders has suffered a handful of more serious injuries over the last few years; while he has recovered well from his Achilles tear and repeated ankle issues, ‘Father Time’ will continue to drag on those problem areas. To make it slightly worse, New Orleans had to somewhat overpay Sanders, understanding that he was a valuable veteran that many teams were considering.
