Ranking the top 3 free agency targets for the Detroit Lions

Jason Pierre-Paul

One of the biggest issues for the Lions in 2019 was the pass rush —or lack thereof. Last offseason, Detroit signed Trey Flowers to a multi-year contract in hopes he could give the defensive front a much-needed boost in the pass-rushing department.

While Flowers led the team in sacks with seven, the Lions need another premier defensive lineman to create some more pressure. Some fans in Detroit could be itching for the Lions to express interest in Jadeveon Clowney.

Instead of spending $15-20 million on Clowney, the Lions could find themselves a potent defensive end in Jason Pierre-Paul. After his unfortunate mishap with fireworks, Pierre-Paul has put together two straight productive seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, notching 21 sacks in the last two years.

With Patricia at the helm, Detroit tends to run a ‘multiple’ defense that involves having a mix of 3-4 and 4-3 sets in the defense. Luckily for the Lions, Pierre-Paul is capable of putting his hand on the ground or rush the passer from a two-point stance. Plus, he’d be a much cheaper option than some of the more notable names.
