Ranking the top 3 free agency targets for the Detroit Lions

Jamie Collins

Heading into the 2019 season, the Lions deployed a linebacking corps that featured Devon Kennard, Jarrad Davis, and Christian Jones. At the end of the 2019 season, none of them were able to start in all 16 games.

Along with those guys, rookie Jahlani Tavai also saw a role in the defense at inside linebacker. But with the inconsistency in the middle of the defense, Detroit could benefit from adding a proven veteran into the mix. On the other hand, they could add someone who is familiar with Patricia’s defense.

Nearly two weeks before free agency, Jamie Collins is slated to become a free agent for the New England Patriots. Collins, who had two stints with the Patriots, played under Patricia from 2013-2016 when he was the defensive coordinator in New England.

Also, Collins proved once again in 2019 that he thrives in a defense that allows him to utilize his versatility. The 30-year-old linebacker recorded a career-high seven sacks with the Patriots this past season.

At the same time, he proved that he can still excel in coverage, logging a career-high three interceptions in 2019. Patricia would love to have a versatile linebacker like Collins on his defense.
