Ranking the top 3 free agency targets for the Detroit Lions

Devin McCourty

One of the most peculiar moments of the 2019 season for the Lions was when they traded Quandre Diggs. Diggs was a former sixth-round pick for Detroit that became a prominent member of the secondary in 2017.

Even though he wasn’t an All-Pro or Pro Bowler, Diggs was shaping up to be a fantastic safety for the Lions. Nevertheless, Detroit thought it was best to send him to the Seattle Seahawks for a mere fifth-round pick.

While Diggs flourished in Seattle, the Lions weren’t able to find his long-term replacement. Now, Detroit has the chance to fill the void left by Diggs this offseason.

Depending on what happens with Tom Brady, Devin McCourty could become a coveted free agent. If Brady returns, the Patriots may not have enough money to keep the veteran safety in Foxborough.

Just this past season, McCourty was phenomenal as he snagged five interceptions despite being targeted only 30 times. Similar to Collins, McCourty has experience with Patricia and could give the Lions some assurance in the secondary.
