No. 3 — 2003 Wild Card vs. Packers
Date: January 4th, 2003
Score: Falcons, 27; Packers, 7
Michael Vick has had dozens of games that eclipse this from a one from a statistical standpoint — he was “just” 13-of-25, 117 yards with one touchdown, and added 10 carries for 64 yards — but coming into a Wild Card Weekend as an underdog against Brett Favre’s Packers meant tons of pressure.
On a night where Favre couldn’t get out of his own way, Vick accurately played his role. He managed the game, and beat Favre at his own game: slinging it in a cold weather atmosphere. Coming into this game, Favre was 35-0 when the temperature was 34 degrees or lower.
Highlights from that game put it in perspective. There were tons of plays in which the Falcons should’ve been left for dead, only for Vick to turn something into nothing.
The result? Vick led the Falcons to something no team in the NFL’s history had ever done: he beat the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. They stayed true to form, and hit Warrick Dunn and Brian Finneran just enough for the defense to carry the load, and came within a few plays of defeating the Eagles the week thereafter.
