Ranking the top five running back rooms entering the 2020 NFL season

4. Minnesota Vikings

Notable running backs: Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison, Mike Boone, Ameer Abdullah

Next up on the list is the Minnesota Vikings, who have a trio of capable rushers behind Dalvin Cook. Cook, who started in more than 10 games for the first time in his young career in 2019, rushed for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.

If it weren’t for injuries, Cook would likely be regarded as one of the best running backs in the NFL more often. But if Cook does happen to go down with an injury, Alexander Mattison and Mike Boone proved last year that they are more than capable of handling the backfield duties.

Plus, the Vikings also have Ameer Abdullah providing them depth at running back. While he’s failed to live up to expectations as a second-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, Abdullah rounds out a very talented running back group in Minnesota. Even with Kirk Cousins under center, all of these guys should be involved in some capacity next season, with Cook spearheading the group.
