No. 1: Excellent play by Joe Flacco
Entering the season, Joe Flacco is under pressure. Looking from the outside in, it appears first-round 2018 NFL Draft pick, quarterback Lamar Jackson, is waiting to succeed Flacco as the Ravens franchise guy under center. Any slippage in play from Flacco, and fans will be clamoring for the rookie to play.
Just based on Flacco’s Week 1 performance, Jackson will not see the field unless the Ravens are blowing out a team like they did last Sunday. Flacco completed 25 of his 34 passes, adding three touchdowns to his stat line. One of those touchdowns being a dime to the back of the end zone to his wide receiver, Michael Crabtree.
In only two full quarters of play, Flacco registered a 121.7 passer rating. That passing rating was the fifth highest on the day behind the likes of the New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees and Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Rodgers. Most importantly, Flacco did not turn the ball over. Flacco has struggled with interceptions his entire career; considering he’s thrown at least 10 or more interceptions every year of his career.
This performance from Flacco was reminiscent of some of his postseason games, previously.
If Flacco can play around this level every week, it will give Baltimore an elite offense they’ve never had.
