Ravens Could Pursue WR DJ Chark In NFL Free Agency?

The No. 1 task on the to-do list for the Baltimore Ravens this offseason is to re-sign quarterback Lamar Jackson. If they want to have any hopes of contending in 2023, he must be brought back as their starter.

With him under the center, the offense is much more dangerous. The Ravens were one of the most explosive teams on that side of the ball in 2022 when he was on the field despite an underwhelming supporting cast at the wide receiver spot. After retaining Jackson, upgrading their pass catchers should be next on their list.

Baltimore inexplicably traded their No. 1 receiver, Marquise Brown, during the 2022 NFL Draft. They didn’t replace him, instead hoping that 2021 first-round pick Rashod Bateman would step up. He played in only six games because of injury, which led to DeMarcus Robinson leading the wide receivers on the team with only 48 receptions.

An infusion of talent is certainly needed on the offensive side of the ball. While the wide receiver market isn’t as deep this season as it was last year, there are still some solid veterans available. One that should pique the interest of the Ravens is DJ Chark.

Chark spent the 2022 season with the Detroit Lions after playing with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the first four seasons of his career. He played in only 11 games but showcased that he can be a difference-maker on the perimeter during that time.

Chark caught 30 passes for 502 yards, proving to be a nice deep threat for Jared Goff in an explosive Lions offense. While that stat line leaves something to be desired, he did have some strong performances and should he be able to remain healthy, could be a dynamic weapon for the Ravens’ offense.

Another thing working in the Ravens’ favor when it comes to Chark is that he won’t break the bank. He should come relatively cheap and given his upside, he makes for a low-risk, high-reward addition. At the very least, his big play ability should open up the middle of the field to make things a little easier for Mark Andrews to operate.
