The Baltimore Ravens are a team primed to add a veteran wide receiver to the mix in the coming weeks. They came out of the 2022 NFL Draft with less on their wide receiver depth chart than they entered it with.
Wide receiver was certainly one of the underlying needs for the Ravens, but it has now become arguably their No. 1 need for the remainder of the offseason. They made a surprising trade during the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, sending Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to the Arizona Cardinals.
That trade leaves Rashod Bateman as the No. 1 player on the depth chart but behind him, things are certainly shaky. Devin Duvernay, James Proche III, Tylan Wallace, Jaylon Moore and Binjimen Victor follow Bateman on what could be the least intimidating wide receiver depth chart in the NFL.
While we’ve seen other teams around the league bolster the weapons around their young quarterbacks, giving them everything they need to succeed, Baltimore has thus far done the opposite this season. They need to add some pass-catching talent to this roster so that Lamar Jackson can take his game to the next level.
One veteran to keep an eye on is T.Y. Hilton. Over at CBS Sports, they are predicting the long-time Indianapolis Colt will land with the Ravens, as they present the best fit for him in free agency.
Baltimore courted Hilton last year before he ultimately returned to the only organization he has known in the NFL, the Colts. The Ravens should once again show interest, especially after trading Brown.
The Florida Atlantic product isn’t as dynamic as he was a few years ago, but he is a sure-handed veteran that would certainly help Jackson when healthy. Last season, he averaged 14.4 yards per reception, which was his highest mark since 2018.
The big-play ability still exists with Hilton, even if they don’t occur as frequently. He would be a steadying influence on a very young Ravens’ wide receiver group that would benefit from the experience he can bestow upon them.
