This Ravens-Raiders Trade Sends Hunter Renfrow To Baltimore

All of the focus for the Baltimore Ravens this offseason has been on quarterback Lamar Jackson. Entering free agency, his situation has to be resolved before the team can move on to any other tasks this offseason.

If Baltimore can work out a long-term deal with Jackson, the next order of business needs to be upgrading the weapons around him. The running game remains dominant regardless of who is leading the backfield, but for the passing game to get to that next level, there needs to be an infusion of pass-catching talent.

The Ravens took a major risk trading away Marquise Brown during the 2022 NFL Draft and it did not pay off. There was hope Rashod Bateman would step into the No. 1 receiver role but he appeared in only six games.

Baltimore finished 2022 28th in total passing yards as they struggled to move the ball vertically down the field. Tight end Mark Andrews was the only player to record at least 500 yards receiving and the leading wide receiver was Demarcus Robinson with 458 yards in 17 games.

The pass-catching group is something that needs to be addressed this offseason. If the Ravens want to maximize Jackson’s talent, they need to surround him with more weapons. An attainable target this offseason could be Hunter Renfrow of the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Raiders are looking to make some changes of their own to the offense and Renfrow has come up as a possible trade target along with tight end Darren Waller. Coming off of a down 2022, Renfrow shouldn’t be overly expensive to acquire.

A middle-round pick was suggested as the price that the Ravens would have to pay to land him. Baltimore is thin on capital for the 2023 NFL Draft, so they could have to dip into future draft picks. But, they could offer their fifth-round pick, No. 160 in the 2023 NFL Draft, and see what the Raiders say.

Renfrow played in only 10 games last season, catching 36 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns. Not looking like a fit for Josh McDaniels’ system, so it would make sense for the Raiders to shop him.

On a relatively fair contract and just one season removed from a Pro Bowl campaign, Renfrow would present a nice low-risk, high-reward type of move for the Ravens. He would provide Jackson with another reliable set of hands working out of the slot to pair with Andrew and hopefully a healthy Bateman in 2023.
