Washington Redskins: 3 Takeaways from Week 1 Win vs. Cardinals

Paul Rutherford-USA TODAY Sports

A two-headed rushing attack

One of the keys to Washington’s Week 1 victory was it’s well-oiled rushing attack. Led by veterans Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson, the Redskins amassed 182 yards of rushing during the matchup.

Future Canton enshrine, Peterson, led all Redskins with 26 carries for 96 yards and scored his milestone 100th rushing score in that span. Peterson looked like his old self, dancing, juking all around defenders, showed great vision and he still has a burst of speed that we all know him for.

Even with being an older statesman at 33 years old, Peterson has shown to be a vital piece for Washington this season.

The team’s scat back, Thompson, also had a great day as well. The fifth-year pro out of Florida State tallied 128 yards from scrimmage (65 rushing, 63 passing) and catching a 13-yard touchdown from Alex Smith. Coming back from a fractured fibula, Thompson looked like he added a extra burst of speed to his arsenal. With a game like this, Thompson remains as the team’s key to success in 2018

With a performance like that, the Redskins running back could scare defenses this season.
