The Dallas Cowboys have been relatively quiet this offseason outside of the move to trade star wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns. It appears, however, that they tried to swing big on a trade for another wideout. Before the Miami Dolphins pulled off a deal to send DeVante Parker to the Patriots, the Cowboys made a run at acquiring him.
That report comes from Adam Schefter of ESPN, and certainly changes the outlook of the offseason for Dallas.
Parker would have been a very intriguing addition for the Cowboys. With CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup still the top two wide receivers in Dallas, apparently Jerry Jones is looking for even more firepower.
While the Cowboys were unable to get a trade done with the Dolphins, that doesn’t mean that they are done looking for wide receiver help. There are plenty of great options available in free agency and on the trade market. There are also plenty of talented receivers in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft.
Dallas has always done its best to surround Dak Prescott with as many weapons as it can provide him. Parker would have been a huge addition to an already dangerous offense.
During the 2021 season with the Dolphins, Parker caught 40 passes for 515 yards and two touchdowns. He has never been used consistently in Miami and many are expecting a breakout season for him in New England. The Cowboys may not have gotten him, but this certainly adds intrigue for them moving forward.
Expect to continue hearing rumors and reports about the Cowboys trying to make a move or two. DeVante Parker would have a been a nice addition, but they just missed being able to bring him in.
