Renowned NFL head coach Bill Belichick is set to sit out the 2024 season following his departure from the New England Patriots without securing a new coaching position.
However, Belichick’s coaching career is far from over.
According to ESPN, Belichick plans to utilize this time off to prepare for potential coaching opportunities in the 2025 NFL season, with significant vacancies possibly arising. Among the speculated destinations are the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Chicago Bears.
“Belichick is a history buff who could prioritize historic franchises next cycle. Why is that important? Think about the jobs that could potentially open, which include the Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears. All of those are NFL flagships with rich history. If Mike McCarthy’s contract expires without more playoff wins, Belichick’s strong relationship with Jerry Jones could loom large.”
While the Cowboys have confirmed Mike McCarthy’s return for the 2024 season without a contract extension, team owner Jerry Jones has openly expressed admiration for Belichick.
Meanwhile, the Eagles’ head coach, Nick Sirianni, finds himself under scrutiny. If Philadelphia fails to meet expectations again in 2024, it appears increasingly probable that the team will seek a new coaching direction.
It will be interesting to see where Bill Belichick lands in the future. He’s a historically dominant head coach and is sure to get another job in the 2025 coaching cycle. The Eagles might just be his best landing spot.
