It looks like the Las Vegas Raiders will be retaining Antonio Pierce after all.

According to multiple reports, the Raiders are finalizing a deal to make Pierce their full-time head coach, via Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk.

The news will surely delight Las Vegas’ players, who publicly expressed their staunch support of Pierce during and after the regular season.

Recently, defensive lineman Maxx Crosby went as far to say that he might explore a trade if the Raiders decided to move on from Pierce, who took over as interim head coach after the team fired Josh McDaniels back in late October.

Wide receiver Davante Adams also gave Pierce a big vote of confidence, and running back Josh Jacobs, who is set to be a free agent this offseason, said he would strongly consider re-signing with Las Vegas if the Raiders kept Pierce as coach.

Las Vegas went 5-4 after Pierce took over and boasted the NFL’s top-ranked scoring defense under his direction. The Raiders’ run with Pierce at the helm was highlighted by a 63-21 drubbing of the Los Angeles Chargers as well as a win over the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Christmas.

Pierce had previously been serving as Las Vegas’ linebackers coach before being installed in an interim role.

There had been speculation that the Raiders could consider hiring University of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, who is weighing an NFL return. However, owner Mark Davis has appeared to listen to the heartbeat of his team.

We’ll see what Antonio Pierce can do over the course of a full season in 2024.
