REPORT: Packers, Everson Griffen share mutual interest in possible deal

The Green Bay Packers may not be done when it comes to adding talent to its roster ahead of the 2020 season. One option could include former Minnesota Vikings pass rusher Everson Griffen, who remains a free agent.

The Vikings elected not to re-sign Griffen earlier in the offseason as they faced a restrictive salary cap situation but remain interested in bringing him back. With Jadeveon Clowney still remaining unsigned, the defensive end market has mostly hung in the balance waiting for his decision.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers and Griffen share a mutual interest in a possible contract. However, he is still narrowing down his choices before making a decision.

Managing to add a proficient pass-rusher like Griffen would help bolster the Packers’ pass rush on the edge in a needed way. Pairing him with Z’Darius Smith could result in some truly intriguing possibilities. It also doesn’t hurt that Griffen has a strong familiarity with NFC North division rivals.

Griffen has spent much of his career having to square off with Aaron Rodgers twice per season. Signing with the Packers would afford him the opportunity to not have to chase No. 12 around, instead, Griffen would be able to benefit from that quarterback play.

Last season, Everson Griffen appeared in 15 games and recorded 41 combined tackles (11 for loss), 8.0 sacks, 24 QB hits, one interception, and two pass breakups. It’s clear the 32-year-old has plenty left in the tank and would make a key impact for the Packers in 2020.
