When the Denver Broncos traded for Russell Wilson in March 2022, people expected the franchise to take a major leap. They now had a stable, elite presence at quarterback, and with solid weapons at his disposal, Wilson seemed prime to elevate the Broncos to the next level.

Well, Wilson has done anything but the sort thus far.

After going just 5-12 and having the worst year of his career in his first season in Denver, Wilson has gotten off to an 0-3 start in 2023, prompting Lou Scataglia of FanSided to wonder if the veteran may ultimately request a trade.

It’s not that Wilson has played poorly this season. He hasn’t. Through three games, the 34-year-old has thrown for 791 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions while completing 65.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 99.5. However, in spite of Wilson’s improvement from a year ago, things still have not gotten any better in the Mile High City.

The Broncos reached a low point in the Wilson era this past Sunday, getting routed by the Miami Dolphins by a score of 70-20. Could there be a scenario in which Wilson ultimately gets frustrated and asks out?

Wilson is not accustomed to losing. He spent the first decade of his NFL career with the Seattle Seahawks, making the playoffs in all but two of his seasons there. He led the Seahawks to a pair of Super Bowl appearances, one of which resulted in a championship. What’s more, he made the Pro Bowl nine times in Seattle and led the league with 34 touchdown passes in 2017.

That’s a far cry from the 5-15 record he currently sports in Denver, and his reputation is undoubtedly taking a hit, fair or not.

The problem for Russell Wilson is that he has a massive contract that will be very difficult for the Broncos to move should the situation arise.
