Saints: 3 Important X-Factors to Beat Eagles

Secondary, especially PJ Williams

It’s no secret: newly-acquired Eagles receiver Golden Tate is a “Saints killer.” His last four games against New Orleans have yielded monster numbers. In total, Tate amassed 31 receptions for 440 yards and five touchdowns.

That Detroit Lions offense sure knew how to pick apart New Orleans’ secondary. Philadelphia could do the very same with Tate, especially being covered by PJ Williams. Williams has had an extremely rough season ever since Patrick Robinson went down early this season. Robinson, who was part of Philadelphia’s Super Bowl-winning roster in 2017, was primed to help the Saints in the nickel corner department. His injury has forced Williams to be the guy covering the slot, and he’s disappointed so far. It seems every week Williams will get burned, and last week was no different as he went up against Tyler Boyd. Even the week he won NFC Defensive Player of the Week, Williams sacrificed a total of 149 passing yards and nearly 100% completion percentage.

Besides Williams, the other secondary member whose improvement would be much-needed is Vonn Bell. It seems as though Kurt Coleman isn’t working out in the Big Easy, putting Bell as the starting safety opposite young star Marcus Williams. Williams got an interception last week, and it’s Bell’s turn to make some plays for the Saints defense.
