San Francisco 49ers: 3 Key Matchups to Watch in Week 3 vs. Chiefs

The Pass Rush vs. Patrick Mahomes

First and foremost, as we touched on in the first slide, the 49ers have to put pressure on Patrick Mahomes. The second-year quarterback has had plenty of time throughout the first two weeks of the season and has shredded opposing defenses apart with ease.

Throughout the first two weeks of the season, San Francisco has recorded five sacks. That number is decent, but they need to add at least three more to that total this week.

Kansas City’s offensive line is no slouch. They have proven that they can keep their quarterback upright and have given him plenty of time to make plays. Kyle Shanahan and the coaching staff have to come up with a game plan to get themselves into the Chiefs’ backfield early and often.

Even if they are unable to sack Mahomes three times, they have to hit him and force mistakes. Young quarterbacks make mistakes and that is something that will never change. It’s time for the 49ers to find a way to break Mahomes’ confidence.
