San Francisco 49ers: 3 Key Matchups to Watch in Week 3 vs. Chiefs

Pierre Garcon vs. the Chiefs’ Secondary

Finally, the 49ers need to get their veteran wide receiver going this week. Pierre Garcon showed flashes of his potential last week with four receptions for 57 yards, but that needs to improve this week.

As previously mentioned, the Chiefs hold the NFL’s worst passing defense numbers so far this year. Garcon should be able to get going this week. Garoppolo needs his veteran target to be not just a security blanket, but a big-play threat, which is what he has been his entire career.

San Francisco’s offense will only go so far with Marquise Goodwin and Dante Pettis leading the way. George Kittle is a quality tight end, but they can’t ask him to be a lead target. Garcon is the No. 1 talent at wide receiver and it’s time that he plays like it.

Garcon will have plenty of opportunities this week and he needs to make the most of them.
