San Francisco 49ers: 5 Bold Predictions for the 2018 NFL Season

Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

The 49ers Will Have a Top Five Offense

The 49ers aren’t far off as they finished 12th in yards per game on offense and averaged 28.8 points per game in their final five games.

A lot of this can be a testament to the “Garoppolo Effect” as some call it. The offense had always maintained a great deal of production even before Garoppolo became the starter.

Before the 49ers named Tom Brady’s former backup to be the face of the offense, the team was already averaging a respectable 321.7 yards per game. However, they were averaging only a pedestrian 17 points per game.

Those statistics aren’t going to impress people. But, once inserting the new 49ers starting quarterback into the fray, the team took form. The offense jumped to an impressive 420.8 yards per game during the five games Garoppolo began to. Also, the passing attack went from 221.8 passing yards per game to 297.

Many of the receiving targets experienced some of the best performances during this period as well. From Marquise Goodwin having two 100-yard games to George Kittle earning his first 100-yard game in the final week. With Trent Taylor having his best game in his flu game in Chicago to “Celek Time” becoming a thing. It was an excellent time for a 49ers receiver.

Not to mention, the production of the running back’s improved as well. Matt Breida was averaging a minuscule 21 rushing yards per game. However, in the final five games, he more than doubled that and put up 46.8 yards per game on the ground.

2Now with a healthy Pierre Garçon coming back and the addition of Jerick McKinnon, the team should experience an offensive explosion in 2018. Plus with the signing of Weston Richburg and the selection of first-rounder Mike McGlinchey, this unit can only go up.
