System quarterback or not, San Francisco 49ers signal-caller Brock Purdy is making waves and is on the verge of tying a major NFL record in Week 14.
Purdy has already logged 11 games with a passer rating of 110 or higher, and if he does it again this weekend against the Seattle Seahawks, he would tie Miami Dolphins legend Dan Marino for the third-most games by a player in his first two seasons in league history (h/t Nicholas McGee of A to Z Sports).
Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson (14) and Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (13) are the only two players ahead of Marino in that category.
It should also be noted that Purdy idolized Marino growing up and wears the No. 13 in honor of the Hall of Famer. Purdy’s father was a huge Marino fan.
On the season overall, Purdy has thrown for 3,185 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing an NFL-best 70.2 percent of his passes and posting a league-high passer rating of 116.1.
The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Iowa State, was selected by the 49ers with the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.
He entered his rookie campaign as San Francisco’s third-string signal-caller but was pressed into starting duty after season-ending injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance.
Purdy played in nine games and made five starts during his debut season, totaling 1,374 yards, 13 touchdowns and four picks while completing 67.1 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 107.3.
He ultimately won his first 10 career starts before enduring a three-game losing streak in the middle of this season. However, since then, Brock Purdy has righted the ship and has led the Niners to four straight wins, most recently guiding them to a blowout victory over the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday.
The 49ers are 9-3 thus far this year.
