The San Francisco 49ers won’t have much to play for in their season finale against the Los Angeles Rams, but that does not mean wide receiver Deebo Samuel will miss the action.
During an appearance on the Up & Adams Show on Tuesday, Samuel said that he expects to play on Sunday.
“You definitely want to keep the flow going, but you also want to give your body a rest,” Samuel said, via David Bonilla of 49ers Webzone. “So, I feel like we’ll play this game for a good bit just to keep the groove going and not take too much time off. I feel like we’re going to be going this week, as in practicing hard, and continue to do the things that we do.”
Most recently, Samuel logged five catches for 37 yards and a touchdown in a win over the Washington Commanders this past weekend. That victory clinched the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC for the 49ers.
“We just got to keep building, and we haven’t played our best ball yet, so we just got to continue to get better and better each day,” added Samuel.
On the season overall, Samuel has caught 58 passes for 871 yards and seven touchdowns.
Samuel, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, was selected by San Francisco in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
He had an impressive rookie campaign, finishing with 57 grabs for 802 yards and three scores. Injuries then limited him to just seven games in 2020, but in his third season, Samuel broke out, hauling in 77 receptions for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.
Last year, Samuel took a bit of a step back, snaring 56 balls for 632 yards and a couple of scores in 13 games. He also hasn’t quite matched his 2021 production this season, but he remains a critical part of the Niners’ offense.
The 49ers are 12-4 on the year and have won seven of their last eight games.
