San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is getting tired of talking about Brock Purdy’s rough outing on Christmas Day.

Unless you have been living under a rock or just don’t follow football (in which case, why would you be here?), Purdy had the worst game of his career in the 49ers’ 33-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens this past week, as he threw four interceptions and ended up exiting late because of a stinger.

As you would expect, Shanahan has been peppered with questions about Purdy, and now, he no longer wants to discuss it.

When asked how Purdy has responded to his horrific game, Shanahan sort of bristled.

“Yeah, he was great,” Shanahan said, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “I think, no offense to you, but I’m so exhausted talking about the interceptions from our last game, but it’s been like any other week and like any other play. He goes through each play one at a time and tries to do as best he can.”

You can understand why Shanahan may be worn out from the subject at this point. Plus, he also does not want to keep piling negativity on his quarterback.

He was then asked how Purdy is able to so effectively speak to the media after a bad game..

“I just think it’s him,” Shanahan said. “That’s how he is when I coach him. He says what he thinks. I say what I think. He’s a very humble guy, but extremely competitive. That’s just Brock. That’s how I see him handle talking to people out of here. He’s always going to take responsibility. He doesn’t just do it because he knows how to talk to the media. That’s how he looks at things.”

Going into Week 16, Purdy was one of the leading candidates for the NFL MVP award. It seems fairly safe to say he has been knocked down a peg or two, but overall, his numbers are still terrific.

Through 15 games, the 24-year-old has thrown for 4,050 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 68.8 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 112.2.

Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purdy will get a chance at redemption when the 49ers battle the Washington Commmanders on Sunday.

San Francisco is 11-4.
