San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel left his team’s Divisional Round playoff win over the Green Bay Packers with a shoulder injury, and head coach Kyle Shanahan provided an update on his status on Monday.

While Shanahan said that X-rays on Samuel’s injured shoulder were negative, he added that Samuel was in a lot of pain and that he won’t really know until Wednesday whether or not the star wide out will be able to play against the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship Game (via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk).

Samuel logged two catches for 24 yards against the Packers before exiting.

On the season overall, the do-it-all receiver caught 60 passes for 892 yards and seven touchdowns while also rushing for 225 yards and five scores.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, was selected by the 49ers in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He played in 15 games during his rookie campaign and was impressive, finishing with 57 catches for 802 yards and three touchdowns. He also reached the end zone three times as a rusher.

The following year, Samuel was limited to just seven games due to injuries, but in 2021, he broke out, hauling in 77 receptions for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns. He also tallied 365 yards and eight scores on the ground.

Samuel has not come close to replicating his 2021 success ever since, but he has remained a vital and versatile part of San Francisco’s offense.

If the Niners are forced to play the Lions without Deebo Samuel next Sunday, it will certainly make their task much more difficult.
